Antique Carriage Clocks
Carriage clocks are small, spring-driven clocks that can be carried easily, hence their name. Carriage clocks vary from simple timepieces to complicated clocks with grande-sonnerie striking and chiming. The vast majority were produced by French makers in the last quarter of the 19th century. Spring-driven fusee gilt metal English carriage clocks were generally more robust than the French models and were only produced in small numbers by the best London makers. Carriage clocks are often of exceptional quality and durability and are highly sought after by collectors today.
